Post-forming of laminate


For most decorative veneers, flat panels are perfectly acceptable. But in many cases, the design and manufacturer would like to make the laminate into a three-dimensional shape. For example, if the kitchen countertop splash-proof side panels can be used with a single veneer without connecting, there is no leakage at all. This structure is easy to keep clean. Because there is only one plate, the perfect match of the finish structure can be guaranteed. The additional and important benefits of this low cost product make curved veneers extremely popular.
Laminate manufacturers have developed post-lamination molding processes to meet this need. This is to make a flat panel {and then heat it and bend it into the desired shape. In the late 1940s, laminate manufacturers have developed veneers that can be bent to a radius of 25.4 mm and 1.6 mm. This still does not meet the requirements. By reducing the thickness of the laminate to 0.79 mm, a more desirable degree of curvature can be obtained. 5毫米。 The embossed convex shape of the 1. 0mm thick post-formed laminate can be bent to a radius of 12.7mm, the concave surface can be bent to a radius of 4.86mm. However, the latest use of post-formed press plates requires a small radius of curvature (10 mm). Such a small radius can only be used with a thin (0.6 mm) laminate.
When the laminate is bent during the post-forming process, the outer surface is subjected to elongational stress and the inner surface is subjected to compressive stress. At some point between the two there is a neutral plane with a stress equal to zero. In a uniform laminate, this neutral plane is in the middle. But the veneers are not all in one. The modulus of the melamine layer is higher than that of the phenolic layer. This shifts the neutral plane closer to the decorative surface. Therefore, the melamine layer requires a smaller dimensional change than any phenolic layer at any given degree of curvature.
